AAA and Dairy Queen® Celebrate Tenth Anniversary of the “I Got Caught” Program

Nearly One Million Children Rewarded for Safety through the Years
 

Burnsville, MN (June 16, 2016)- Ten years ago AAA-The Auto Club Group and Dairy Queen® joined forces to begin rewarding Minnesota children for wearing their helmets during appropriate summer activities.  The reward for being active safely– a small ice cream cone from Dairy Queen®. Now ten years later, nearly one million children have been rewarded with this tasty treat. Other partners in the program include the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association, the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and Safe Kids Minnesota.

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, properly-fitted helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by at least 45 percent – yet less than half of children 14 and under usually wear a bike helmet.

“Providing children with a positive reward for safe behavior hopefully helps them develop the habit of wearing their helmet for activities like bicycling, roller blading and skateboarding, thus protecting the most important part of their body,” stated Gail Weinholzer, director of public affairs, AAA- The Auto Club Group. “We know wearing a bike helmet is the best way to prevent head injuries.”

“With over 250 DQ’s DQ®  in the State of Minnesota, teaming up with AAA, the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association, the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and Safe Kids Minnesota is a wonderful way to reward our young Fans by simply wearing a helmet,” states James Braasch, Field Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation (ADQ).  “We are looking forward to another one million children being rewarded.”
